Cedric Victor-DeSouza

"Shackleton's Unfinished Journey is a once in a lifetime opportunity...unlike anything else, a significant milestone even for veterans of first-hand experiences."

Indian-born fine artist and graphic designer, Cedric's career accomplishments include exhibitions in the U.S and Europe and critical writings for numerous arts-related publications such as Art Papers and New Art Examiner. His paintings are part of a number of private and institutional collections including the permanent collection at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Atlanta, Georgia.

A big believer in the power of education, in the late 1990s, Cedric has lectured to diverse audiences and been on professional panels for topics as diverse as e-commerce for musicians and success with small non-profit art projects. In 1996, he taught Graphic Design and Illustration at the prestigious Portfolio Center. The following year he put together a small team and published TONIC, an independent arts publication for the Atlanta area was a judge for the Advertising Emmys that year.

Cedric's accomplishments in music include touring and and performing as bass player on both sides of the Atlantic ocean, with vocalist, musician and post-punk icon Jarboe as well as other musicians. He has also collaborated on production and music for some of Jarboe's releases.

Upon moving to New York in 2004, Cedric worked as art director for such agencies as Young & Rubicam/Wunderman, Rapp Collins Worldwide and Spier Advertising. He art directed and produced for clients such as Microsoft, Mercedez Benz and Sony with publishing clients including Knopf, Bantam, Chronicle Books, Harper Collins, Viking Press and numerous others. In 2005, he was Gallery Manager for Stefan Stux Gallery. After over a year as Senior Designer for Material ConneXion New York, directing projects for their US, Cologne, Milan and Bangkok offices as well as designer for Culture & Commerce (a design representation agency whose talent include Philippe Starck, Marcel Wanders, Sami Hayek and others) these days he can be found back in his New York studio working on music with Jarboe as well as a new body of paintings and drawings.

Participation in this South Pole expedition has been a long-time dream and this will be his first expedition.
